Taxing Time
It’s that time of year… ugh. Tax Time. I “got it over with” mid February.
How It All Began
President Lincoln imposed the first federal income tax by signing the Revenue Act. The financial requirements of the Civil War prompted the first American income tax in 1861. At first, Congress placed a flat 3-percent tax on all incomes over $800 and later modified this principle to include a graduated tax.
The Constitution gave Congress the power to impose taxes and other levies on the general public. While the Civil War led to the creation of the first income tax in the U.S., the federal income tax as we know it was officially enacted in 1913.
And it gets worse and worse every year. Right, NOT going to get political here – not on my blog.
